Android Software Updates.pngWhen a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device.  The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country.  Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides info on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 27/06/2016. If no info is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices & once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, where it’s made available for a small number of users (5% for example) initially. If no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll be gradually made available to more & more users over a period of a couple of weeks.

Still nothing on the galaxy s5 marshmallow update?

This certainly adds that last tick I needed to switch to nexus once my contract is up.

Whats the deal with the Galaxy Note 4.  The update has been available on other carriers for months now, even longer OS.  It really can't be that difficult to add the optus logo in.

New forum, new website, new login, new username, new password and 15 minutes of mucking around to get to same old post that says still no updates for Note4.

All I want is my phone updated to the latest operating system. Yes and I know all the reasons why you are so slow but never the less try and lift your game.

As @EightBit4Life says

Hi,

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7" which I use as my primary phone+tablet.

I don't see this model listed for software update. FYI, I signed up the table+data package with Optus.

Hi @EightBit4Life & @rc211e just got an update that the Note 4 has been submitted for testing, current completion expected early next month.

@HardKhor The Galaxy Tab S2 has now been added to the list, when there's any info about a software update we'll confirm in these updates.

@verbatym The Marshmallow update for the S6 Edge Plus completed earlier this month, it can take a few weeks for the manufacturer to rollout the release of the update to all customers so you should see it come through shortly.

@Optus @Andy Thanks for the reply.  Glad to see it is coming soon

@Andy, could you tell us whether the monthly security updates for the Note 5 will be be rolled out in a timely manner? It was recently updated with May update and I see some phones being earmarked for June updates now. Will the same happen for the Note 5?

I can see that the Note 4 is in testing, but can you please tell us a release date or a round about time? I am sick of constantly checking for updates on my phone every day!

Note for upgraders:

When i upgraded my HTC Desire 820 to 6.0.1 the GPS now turns off when Power Save mode is on. This appears to be a fault in the OS. I had a problem where Strava wouldnt track me because as soon as the screen went off the GPS did too. It seems to be a known problem which isnt fixed in 6.0.1.

When i turned off the Power Save function, it worked again as normal.

Hey there,

Could the LG G5 be added into this list please? It's currently on the 6.0.1 marshmallow update. Just wondering when the next update comes out.

Thanks!

Contributor danz207

@zinusmero GPS uses quite a bit of battery so yes, power saving will turn it off.

@HedyIsInTheHous I'm sure once an update is received, Optus will add it to the list.

Hi, any update on when 6.0 will be available for Xperia Z3?

If not, can you maybe ask Sony when this will happen? This is getting rediculous!

Thanks.

New Contributor zinusmero

@danz207 - should've explained better, my point was that in lollipop (5.0.1) the GPS worked fine with Power Save mode on. It no longer works with marshmallow (6.0.1).

Contributor danz207

@zinusmero I understood what you meant, I've seen others complain that the GPS is disabled when power saving is on but there's no way around it. Power saving mode is doing what it's now designed to do, temporarily disabling the mode is your only choice.

Hello @Shae,

Could you please help me understand why @Optus does not have the Marshmallow update for Sony Xperia Z2 to test with, when the competition (which may or may not start with 'V') have been rolling it out for over three weeks?

Thanks for your time.

Question RE S6... just got a prompt to update my software 250mb OTA. Currently running 6.0.1 although your list states 6.0...Am I just getting a security patch or what?

New Contributor Martytb

@ Jaxon - I have the same question. Why does the Optus listing indicate the Samsung S6 is on6.0 - Mine is on 6.01 and have received the same update notification and what is the update for as I cannot find any information on it. Given the issues I have had since upgrading to 6.01 I am reluctant to install any updates until I know exactly what it is and what issues others may or may not be having.

Just had an Update for HTC M8 on 4 August and now I can't access my contacts or use my phone as a phone! Keeps telling me contact has unexpectedly failed. Help! #BigFailOptus.

Any news on when the Z3 is going to receive the update to Marshmallow? I have friends with Z3's on other providers who have already received it so surely it can't be too far away.

Hey PhantomCanary, no word on this yet. Stay tuned though → Android Firmware.

I was thinking to get an Optus Samsung S7 phone on a post-paid plan.

I wonder how the Android monthly security updates work: is it like in the US that phone owners have to wait the carrier to push them even when they're ready available for the unlocked version of that phone. Sometimes those US users have to wait months and months.. and to be honest I was planning to get a Samsung phone just for this regular updates (Motorola for example doesn't do them anymore or ofter they are very late). Thanks
