Latest Android updates

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device. The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country. Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of the 25/10/2018. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

Hi @CraigS88 - So sorry but we don't have an ETA on this yet. As soon as we receive an update we'll update our page.

Hi, I am using Samsung S7 edge (under contract) and it is still running on Android version 7.0. When is the 8.0 available for update? Or do I need to do any troubleshooting from my end?

Cheers

Hi @jaspalnarwal this should now be available from our end. Have you checked for any updates post 25.10.2018?

Okay, should definitely be available. Might be a good idea to speak with our technical team so we can investigate further.

Any security updates for htc u11? I understand software updates can be slow but I just find lack of security updates to be disappointing especially what we use our phones for these days. Still stuck on security patch all the way back from November 2017. . Almost a full year without security updates??

I've just done a bit of research on the topic @Disappointedhtc

According to several sources online, it's been a while since HTC have released a security update for the U11.

We're reliant on the manufacture to send us updates for testing with Optus features/services. To my knowledge, this hasn't happened.

My Samsung S7 edge has still not received the update, have contacted the technical team, even they don't know what's wrong and asked me to wait for a few days. I don't know what to do, I hope Optus realize people are buying phones outright from other websites just to avoid waiting months for updates.

Our tech team generally aren't made aware of the status of upcoming software releases.

They should know about the current version of firmware available for a particular advice, but they couldn't tell you whether we have plans to roll out a security patch.

I'll have a new report on Monday. If there's any mention of a security patch for GS7, I'll post back here.

My only concern is my S7 is running on Android 7.0 and this post suggest current version should be 8.0.

To those Galaxy S7/Edge users, do try using Smart Switch to update your software if the update is not showing up over-the-air. Simply download the app onto your computer and then plug-in your phone. Open up smart switch and then it should automatically check for updates. Follow the instructions and the update should be installed soon. For more information, look up Smiley Frustratedamsung Smart Switch" and how to use it on YouTube or on your search engine.

I'm in N.Z. but running an Optus S7 Edge SM-G935F.

I am on 8.0.0 and got the ERJ2 update yesterday.
