Android Software Updates.pngWhen a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device.  The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country.  Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides info on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 22/12/2016. If no info is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices & once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, where it’s made available for a small number of users (5% for example) initially. If no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll be gradually made available to more & more users over a period of a couple of weeks.

Still no news on Nougat on S7/S7 Edge? I read that Vodafone has been doing the testings about 5 days ago.

Seriously just hurry up! I want the note 7s grace UX on my edge already! Optus are so pathetic when it comes to updates

Hey slfepnipl and Rockdad83 - can appreciate you're both frustrated Smiley Sad This page will be updated when we have the info available.

The Australian android update process is a joke and we all know it. At least we are on 6.0.1 with the S7/edge with December security patch. Nougat would make a nice Christmas present from Optus but I won't hold my breathe as they most likely haven't even received it from Sammy yet. We cannot compare Optus and Vodafone it's like potatoes and tomatoes. I would expect by late January early February we will get Android 7.x for the S7/edge. If you want it now grab the beta and flash it, it's very stable even beta 1.

Occasional Contributor slfepnipl

@savage01I am not part of the Galaxy Beta Program so I guess we just have to wait for the official release. Like you said, it won't happen not until another couple of months 🙁😕

Contributor savage01
Contributor

You don't need to be in the beta program. The official beta 1 is floating around on the internet to flash via Odin.

I just hope we get 7.1.1 and not 7.0.

hows does the Galaxy A5 get tested for 7.0 before the S7 WTH

Occasional Contributor slfepnipl

@TheFirst Yes, I read that today too.  And apparently, Australian carriers are not jumping straight to 7.1 So, it seems we'll be getting 7.0 in Jan/Feb Smiley Frustrated

Hey guys, we can only test the updates that are provided to us from the manufacturers. Once it's been tested then we send it back for deployment by manufacturer.

What was in the latest update pushed out? It was only a small update and my security patch month didn't change so what was it?

It seems that the 5th Nougat beta has been rolled out as part of the Galaxy Beta Program in the UK and Korea. I suppose we would have to wait for a good couple of months before Samsung officially rollout to all its carriers.... 🙁😕😑

Occasional Contributor slfepnipl

@Serena I think @savage01 was referring to the 12.3/12.4 MB update. I didn't get any notification for the small update not until I checked my settings manually.

Contributor savage01
Contributor

Yes @slfepnipl that's the one. It was pushed out either the 27th or 28th. Only manually checking got it to show up.

Hey testers, do you think programmers will add camera2 api?..

Occasional Visitor CoreyJ

We keep getting told that carriers have to wait for for LG/Samsung etc to send the updates to them.

So why aren't carriers pushing harder? Push LG/Samsung to get the updates to us!!!

Contributor savage01

As much as I want the latest and greatest android version I don't want an unfinished one and I'm guessing neither do Optus hence why they wait instead of pushing for it.

Occasional Visitor CoreyJ

@savage01 - 7.0.1 is hardly unfinished if 7.1.1 has been released...

So it appears that the testing for Samsung's Nougat has officially ended yesterday with a scheduled official release in Jan'17. Hope to hear some good news from Optus soon! 😊☺️😆

Hey Xxddxx, are you enquiring about installing an OS update manually on your device? You should be able to find guides on how to do this online however we don't officially support this. We always recommend waiting for the official release and update from your manufacturer.

Happy new year all.

There's news of Nougat 7.1.1 (?) being seeded for the S7 Edge.  But the table in this thread doesn't even identify any testing activities on Optus' radar.

Please update?

Hi, are you planning on updating the Galaxy S5 to be able to use VoLTE Software Upgrade.  I can see that it is being tested for the S6.  Hopefully the S5 will get it, it is available in the UK.

Cheers

Looks like the European GS7 and GS7Edge will finally receive the OTA Nougat updat on the 17th Jan. I hope we will get ours before the end of the month? If Vodafone is getting theirs first, I'll be switching providers when my contract expires 😊

Hey @slfepnipl, that's not good to hear. We're waiting for the update from Samsung and once we've we'll test this and release for consumers.

Hey @Gill_007, we're still in the process of testing some new handsets for this, sorry don't have the details of the handsets or an ETA yet.

For everyone waiting for the nougat update don't hold your breath as most people know optus are the worst for updates. I think they take there time hoping people will get fed up with waiting and buy a new phone with the new system on it. Optus are more than happy to take your money but are lousy with giving anything back like updates.

Moderator Aman_B

That’s very disheartening to hear @simonpf  Smiley Sad  We do release the upgrades as soon as we receive them from the handset manufacturers. You can keep a track of these here → https://yescrowd.optus.com.au/t5/Blog/Android-Software-Updates-22-12-2016/ba-p/191157

It may be disheartening but i am only going on your past updates it took months for optus to release android 6 and 5 if we see the nougat update before the release of the s8 i will be very surprised.

@Koraylan 13/1/2017 is the latest update.

NOUGAT 7.0 or 7.1.1 is way overdue. Im wondering if I can download the APK versions off the net and install myself? I know Optus will obviously recommend against it (but then Optus has disabled the FM radio chip on the device as well, so they're not always thinking about customers first) but can anyone else tell me if this is possible?

Contributor savage01
Contributor

@Funsky considering you just called nougat an apk I would suggest you not go down that route as nougat and all other previous android versions are roms / firmware not an apk file that you install. You would most likely brick your device and void your warranty. Nougat will come when it's ready and this isn't even the latest blog post so maybe keep up a bit.

On a side note using google chrome on my galaxy S7 hitting the comment button then pressing in the comment box often results in "pressing" the post your comment button instead of allowing me to type. Please look into this.

I have just read that even india is getting nougat update now if a poor country like india can get updates before optus even mentions a release date for nougat how pathetic is optus . Come on you guys how much longer do we have to wait . Here is an idea spend some money hire more technical support  and get the job done every body is sick to death of waiting .

Occasional Contributor Funsky
Occasional Contributor

@savage01, I don't know how this can't be the latest given Optus has been referring to this Android Software Update thread whenever people scream 'How much longer?' regarding the Nougat update. As to it'll come when it's ready, is that what you say to the girls mate?

@simonpf, exactly!

Contributor savage01
Contributor

 @Funsky  1.check this link https://yescrowd.optus.com.au/t5/Blog/Android-Software-Updates-31-01-2017/ba-p/196166

2. Do you really think complaining here will make the update get to you faster?

3. As for your comment directed at me it's water under the bridge for me "mate" cause I'm married to woman and don't need "girls".

4. If you can't wait for official Optus / Australia firmware then go flash the BTU firmware and get nougat now.

Occasional Contributor Funsky
Occasional Contributor

@savage01, that's fine. I stand corrected and my apologies.

The frustration is still there about the delays. GS7/E users, a big proportion of whom are forced downgrades from N7 are still in the dark about Nougat updates whilst 7.1.2 is now already being tested. Optus is a $9.1B a year company, it can do better!

Contributor savage01
Contributor

@Funsky I agree and don't get me wrong I too am annoyed at the delay but we are just the consumer. Samsung and Optus do as they please when they please.

Occasional Visitor Panda968

If you update to csc BTU  you will stuff your phone up as your phone is locked to optus already tried

Not my first samsung and wont be my last

I was really looking forward  to android  7.0 i used it on my samsung s6 rooted phone and wont root this one

Unless optus can confirm  we can update to btu
