Android Software Updates - 22/06/2018

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device. The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country. Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of the  22/06/2018. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

Installed the Oreo update on my S7 here in Melbourne. 4G performance has DRASTICALLY suffered. Gone from 4G speeds of 120Mbps to 3Mbps. Tried factory resetting the phone, resetting network settings and toggling mobile data on and off. Nothing works. Can someone please advise if they are having the same problems and if so, what a solution may be!

@Vishant Not having that problem but have you tried a Soft Reset (Hold Power button and volume down for 10 seconds), or a simple shutdown and then boot? I would suggest downloading Samsung Members, registering your device and use Samsungs live chat service. I had a weird issue where my phone would become unresponsive at times but they helped me solve that problem

@Chris4418 Thank you for your reply! Both a Soft Reset and simple shutdown also do not solve the issue. I will give the Samsung Members live chat option a go and report back.

Got the update this morning. The download, install and update were flawless. Getting 56mbps. Can't tell the difference yet. Using Pixil launcher with battery saver on. I backed up sms and call logs, and all my files and photos are permanently backed up but since it's an update without a factory reset, all my texts and call logs plus everything else was untouched. I've had to re-logon into Optus and Samsung services. Anyway, from my point of view, it's was painless.

I have updated my s7 to oreo. My pop up notification style is still the same like nougat. I have seen videos in YouTube of s7 running on Oreo have the pop up notifications like that of s8 and s9. Anybody know how to fix it? Or Optus made changes to the software to make notifications deliver in that old way itself.

Download took about 15 mins and install about 20 minutes. Had initial issue with sim not being recognised (restart fixed it). Speeds of 25mbps dl and 2mbps ul. Otherwise all good.

@Vishant, I would suggest wiping the cache partition via the recovery menu as follows:

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Android logo displays, release all keys ('Installing system update' will show for about 30 - 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
5. Press the Power key to select.
6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

This does not wipe your applications.

Just updated my S7. It was a bit laggy at first but I did the clear cache partition , fully charged phone and it’s going really well, battery is good very smooth and all apps aok. I did the update OTA. Did not affect my SD card . contacts or settings including pictures. I say go for it!

Hi Pommster There is no Bixby button on the S7 1.Switch off your Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 edge completely. 2.Boot into Galaxy S7 recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Up and Home keys. While pressing these, hold the Power key too. 3.Release all three buttons when Samsung Galaxy S7 screen flickers and you see the logo. 4.Once in Recovery mode, you will have to use Volume Up and Down keys for navigation and Power key for confirming an option. 5.Press the Volume Down Button Until the ‘Wipe Cache Partition’ Option is Highlighted 6.Press the Power Button to Select this Option 7.Press the Volume Down Button to Highlight the ‘Yes’ Option 8.Then Press the Power Button to Wipe the Cache Partition of the Galaxy S7 9.Once Done, Make Sure the ‘Reboot System Now’ Option is Highlighted(it should be by default) 10.And Then Press the Power Button to Reboot the Galaxy S7 Back into the Android OS

So besides the notifications and some automated picture in picture instances (like maps and youtube), there's been result no noticeable change compared to pre- update with Evie. 

There may be some under the bonnet changes that has been good,  or at least not bad. 🙂

Its probably the last change for the s7. But it won't be long before the Note 9 comes into cycle abd then s10 where under the screen finger print comes around. 

Overall its a good  and smooth update with no loss of personal photos or other data.

So as an update from my original post.

I had already tried all the options listed in this thread (and I'm really appreciative of everyone who took the time to write a suggestion!), nothing explicitly seemed to work.

Where it stands now, it fluctuates. On some occassions it flies with 120Mbps, and then minutes later back down to 2-3Mbps. Not sure whats happening, though does seem at this stage the issue is isolated to me and not a wide spread symptom of the S7 Oreo update.
