When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device. The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country. Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of  22/03/2018. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

About that Note 8 upgrade thats currently live....someday...

Major drawback of buying a carrier supplied phone - having to wait weeks or months after non branded releases.

Obviously, the faster we can deploy the update the better, but there was less than a 2-week gap between the re-release of the Samsung S8 and S8+ 8.0 Manufacturer build and our carrier update (which isn't so bad).

I don't have an update for the 8.0 release for the Note 8, but as soon as we get something, we'll be sure to update the blog J

Since the S8 is now getting Oreo does this mean the S7/S7 Edge will be next?

@Mayooonaise Roll out dates for Oreo on the S7/Edge is yet to be confirmed I'm afraid.

@Dazza1977 Continue to check Settings > Software Update and it should appear for you to manually install

I’ve got a outright s8 plus with Optus sim. Has anyone received an update for outright s8 plus yet? Seems to be different release dates for locked phones and outright phones!

It depends where you'd purchased the handset from. Was it purchased from another carrier or directly through Samsung?

Handsets purchased directly from the manufacturer or retail store should be the first to receive the new update.

Is there any carrier branding visible on the phones user interface?

Hi Dan C, the phone was purchased from Harvey Norman at an outright price. Sim card is optus post paid. No branding visable on user interface. Please assist if possible. Totally unlocked.

Try http://www.imei.info/. Enter your IMEI number and it should let you know whether you have a carrier variant.

Non-carrier variants are the amongst the first handsets to receive the update.
