Latest Android updates

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device. The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country. Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of the 21/02/2019. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

Can you confirm 100% that Build : LYA - L09 - 9.0.0.188 - (C34E11R1P16patch01) is in fact in optus's possesion and testing is underway? from previous reports this has been deemed false.

Any timeframe on Android 9.0 for Samsung Note 8?

Regular Contributor
Regular Contributor

@MrYJDrake @garvanii Odds are definitely going against Optus, according to Huawei at the beginning of this week their comments were Google have not provided Huawei with the .188 firmware, once they receive it this has to be modified to emui 9 before being released to optus for testing.

Who based on track record is more believable Optus or Huawei?

Occasional Contributor MrYJDrake

@Dazkatmaka11 uh... none of the above?

@MrYJDrake Quite true, I have just screenshot the blog and sent this to Huawei Australia Facebook Messenger for comments. Let's see what they pull out of the rabbit hat this week. 😂

They have actually provided the full release number  C34E11R1P16patch01. Optus cant make that up, Huawei should be able to find this easily.

Lets see what comes of it

@garvanii lol patch01 I am seeing a timeframe for patch02 to be something like Finding Nemo and the Dory movie. 😂😂😂

Don't worry since there is .193, .198 and .201 firmware I am sure .188 will be pushed back to mid March by Optus. This release wont meet expectations and then we'll get a mid April date for .198. Hauwei will then have .2XX and this whole thing will start again. 4 months and no updates? it seems like just a ride to me but I'd be happy just to be clear on whats happening, why have their been no updates, who is at fault? from what I have read it seems like one big lie so Optus doesnt seem to be no supporting a phone that they are still trying to flog off
Regular Contributor
Regular Contributor

@Xalies Yes probably true they're not supporting it because Huawei probably have not been so assertive as Samsung.

Samsung have probably said update our phones or you won't have them in your sales inventory.

It won't be finished by the 1st March and I can bet it's not even rolling out by April 1st. We'll all be taken for  April fool's and not the first time by optus.

Just one thing.. You still have the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ as Android Version 8.

Occasional Contributor Duzza

@AbuMKB its only just started rolling out in parts of europe on non carrier phones. So expect it start of April at the earliest.

Contributor Rockdad83

@AbuMKB it's says mid march on the Samsung members app. But the fact that they haven't even said it's in testing in this latest blog, then who knows. I mean it's not Huawei.

FYI.. I don't know how .183 wasn't suitable for optus because the difference between 183 and 188 is only January Security patches.

Isn't it funny, the customer resolution manager Cassandra just happens to be out of the office on leave, matters to be dealt with by Tracy, who now just happens to be out of the office on leave. I get a message to contact Michael which I have done......who's email just happens to say he's out of the office on leave...... seriously Optus your running a holiday camp & circus. What a joke.

@Optus @Dan_C  @Alistar Are we on track for 1st March Completion for Mate 20 Pro or are we not going to see anything and be left in the dark as to what is happening again?

I don't have any faith in the information given as it stands.

I don't think anyone in optus have a clue what is happening heresh my message from optus resolution manager..1st Mar is Friday...I don't see anything happening.

I just wanted to touch base to let you know I have reached out to some different departments within Optus to see if I can get some more clarification and information regarding your concerns raised with the TIO.

I will be in touch as soon as I have more information to provide.

Kind regards,

Cassandra

Here's the mentality of Optus, I left a message for Optus Facebook on Messenger asking for the firmware status on the 16th February, I've left several messages since then asking for a response, today at 5am I finally received a reply stating that they will not reply to messages about this tooit.

Optus are just pathetic, lying, deceiving, disrespectful peoope.

Really terrible handling and communication of upsated. For the Mate 20 Pro it say that the current version is 9.0.0.126 but I'm on .122 and have not received any updates soncs iveI had the phone in November. I'm barely over Optus's shocking g handling

Contributor charithap

Hey Optus, Wouldn't it be amazing if you stopped getting in the way of Android updates (which are already bad enough as they are) and just passed them on directly without adding your 2 cents to the firmware? I think that would be fantastic.
Regular Contributor

I have just had a response from a very helpful manager at Optus, from what is being mentioned it seems optus don't have .188 firmware they are still working on trying to get it from Huawei.

He has escalated the request for information. He is also enquiring why the current version says .126 when it's not and it is .122

I will be receiving more information from him Monday. So again someone in the technical department or whoever wtwro these blogs are providing false misleading information. Or to reword it..... TELLING LIES.

Contributor Xalies

Wow what a mess. There seems to be enough correspondence from both sides to support that it's a case of Huawei not releasing the firmware to Optus for whatever reason. Why don't they come clean ... unless they are trying to lie your customers. I have 3 mobiles on my account and I was quite happy with Optus as a whole but I'm sorry after because of this I'm done as soon as I can leave Optus. Honesty should be integral to any public facing business.

You'd think after the shambles that was Optus' response to the green LG panel issue, they'd be trying extra hard to keep Mate 20 Pro owners happy now. But nope, seems like they are doing everything they can just to upset them even more. No one there ever knows what is really happening or can do anything to help you. I used to work for Telstra and I thought they were bad, but compared to Optus they are bloody amazing. Seriously Optus is this the best you can do? Your CEO should fire himself.

Anybody tried emailing Allen directly to see if he actually follow his own rule? He was saying that any CSR that upset customers should be fired. You can get his email via a Google search (not sure if true or not but worth a try). Direct him to look at this thread and see if we can get a better response than what we get currently.

Updated to 9.0.0.206 using tool posted on xda, no need for bl unlock or root. Also doesn't need any $.

Kept the c34 region and while cts profile check shows that it fails, the Google pay actually works (been using it all weekend).

Also 206 alows your to use Google assistant when phone is off without needing to unlock.

I have just received a call from Cliff at Optus who has taken over my case and he has finally received an answer from the technical department, he said that he shouldn't be mentioning to me this information but .188 firmware is again incompatible and it's the Wifi calling that is failing on every firmware, they don't know if it's optus network or the firmware causing the issue and have raised an investigation with Huawei. So at this point there is going to be no firmware update until they can fix this issue.

He has agreed to contact me every Monday with an update.

Really I don't see what kind of benefits WiFi calling would have, unless you are at home or someone else's house or in an office or public WiFi hotspot and you have poor quality reception from your phone radio. The likelihood of getting a decent data allowance or signal strength on a public WiFi hotspot would usually be crap anyway.

If you have a crappy signal strength from the phone then WiFi calling through the data is going to be useless because you would also have a crappy data connection probably H+ or less.

So really it's just a gimmick, an extra setting that is pointless for the most part.

Nokia 7.1 is an Android One phone and isn't even on this list - when can we expect the Android 9 update?

Frequent Contributor

Estimated testing completion timeframe: 1st of March 2019 <- So where is it guys?

@Optus @Alistar Optus is currently lagging behind every other carrier in Australia and the entire world with regard to Mate 20 Pro updates.

The latest Optus .122 firmware is 4 MONTHS OLD. Other carriers have released 6 updates in this time..

It should not take this long to approve an update and add your bloatware to it. Put more people on it and GET IT DONE ALREADY.

Regular Contributor
Regular Contributor

They just need to forget about WiFi calling, the general response is nobody really gives a crapola for this feature.

What we want is updated security, bug fixes, enhancements and improvements from the latest firmware.NOT some stupid useless WiFi calling gimmick.

Frequent Visitor garvanii
Frequent Visitor

Agree, somewhat. I would suggest releaseing a firmware without wifi calling asap. Then for the next update you can reinstate it, you will have two months to sort that particular issue out.

Waiting another month or two for a udated firware is UNACCEPTABLE Optus. How do you not understand this.

Which will be released first?

1. Andro Q from Google

2. 1st Mate 20 Pro firmware update by optus in 2019
