Android Software Updates - 21/02/2018

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device. The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country. Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of  21/02/2018. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

Still nothing for the S8 or S8+ 😣

Just a quick question. Its says that the update for the mate 9 has been deployed, yet I haven't received anything on my phone about it with it saying that I am using the latest update which is still Android 7.0 and EMUI (Huawei OS) 5.0.1.

is there a certain given time for the update to be sent from when this site says it has been deployed or is it my phone? 😥

any answers and info would be greatly appreciated. 😊

I'd say to give it a while. The average update might be between 500meg to a gig or two and when you think of how many devices are being updated through Optus's servers, it could take a while.

The servers might be absolutely flooded with update requests for all the different phone manufacturers and models of those phones possibly reaching terabytes of data so not everyone is going to get it at once.

Thank goodness I get my updates via wireless or I'd go broke paying the data bill!!!

Can someone tell me what has happened to z5 premium 8.0! ! Can we keep up our hopes or should let it go??  Smiley Sad

Are there any updates on when Android 8.0 will be avaliable for the Note 8?

Occasional Contributor Duzza

@Anrew122 Samsung pulled the S8 Oreo update after it caused some to restart unexpectedly.

So you'll be waiting on them to release a fix first before Optus even gets it.

Samsung have started re-rolling out the "fixed" Oreo update.

If you use Odin to flash the CRAP firmware you can copy over update.zip and upgrade to the latest Sammy release.

@Duzza So when do you think it will be released roughly? How long does it usually take to fix the errors in the update? @aphex2k whats odin and how do i get the latrst update? Im very impatient and want the update now because it takes to long waiting for optus to release it.

As you guys are aware, a critical issue had been identified in the early stages of the Oreo rollout for the GS8 range. We'd initially planned on deploying the final carrier build in late Feb - early March.

I believe the roll out has resumed internationally with unlocked handsets the first to receive the stock build.

I’m afraid that I’m unable to confirm when we'll be deploying our final carrier build. As soon as we receive another update, we'll update this thread or include the update on our next blog.

@Thistown, 8.0 was pushed out to Z5 Premium handsets in early Jan.

Sorry @Thistown, maybe I'm still half asleep, I'm not sure what you mean. Are you referring to the comments I'd made in relation to the 8.0 update for GS8's?

We receive a fortnightly update from the product/dev team which includes an estimated completion date. If information hasn't been made available then "then we have yet to receive the update from the manufacturer to begin the testing process."

Taking a while for for the 8.0 update for Mate 9 to show up, I know 5 others on Optus with Mate 9 and none have got it yet also. Very strange....

whoa nelly, hold your horses, Xperia Z5 Premium marked as 8.0, thats a typo surely, no 8.0 rom has been released yet for the Z5P, yet optus is already rolling one out??? me thinks someone has made a typo

@Dan_C No, i was referring about ur comments on Sony z5 premium!!  None of those devices hv received oreo 8.0 from manufacturers end!! That post is completely misleading and  must be posted without proper knowledge abt it! According to my sources android 7.0 with build number 32.3.A.0.376-R4D was the last successful rollout to Sony z5 premium by Optus Au!!  Can u pls correct me if im wrong?

Sorry guys, there has been a mix up. There was a bit of confusion in regarding the advice we'd initially received. The blog has been updated to reflect the current version of Android for the Xperia Z5 Premium. I've gone in and edited the last few updates to avoid any further confusion.

I just received and have installed the January CVE update for my Samsung S7 and there are some things users might consider when updating to this one: 1. Weather application is updated to the version that Samsung S8 uses and therefore has a new visual design. However, the service will say thay it is broken after the update. Should this happen to you, go to Settings>Apps and scroll down to the Weather and Weather Forecast listings and CLEAR DATA for both. This was an issue for me after updating and rebooting didn't work so I had to clear the data. This will however remove the cities you have already added in the previous weather app version. 2. Game Launcher's Find More Games feature is somehow broken and both a reboot and clearing up data for the app didn't work so this may be fixed in a later build but I can't say for sure what is causing the problem, how to fix it and when it will be resolved. I am here as well to express how I really want to get my hands on the Android 8 update for the S7 versions.

@Thistown You missed an opportunity to link to this page https://xpericheck.com/device/E6853 to show that Sony appears to have abandoned all AU Z5 premium users two versions ago.  Oh and this https://xpericheck.com/device/E6653 (Optus only page: https://xpericheck.com/cda/1298-7278) which shows that plain  Z5's are more up to date than the Z5 premiums

Hey @Fanglestein,

what model is your phone, because if its the Mate 9 you shouldn't be waiting to much longer because I have just received the update

New Contributor Fanglestein

It is the Mate 9 but someone told me that my build represent the Taiwan model and they don't have updates and may not get them.

I bought it in Australia from DWI as they were an affordable price. Quite a few people told me the Taiwanese models would not get an update and I hope thye are wrong as Orea sounds like fun to play with (heheheheh)
