When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device. The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country. Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 20/11/2017. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

Why is optus taking so long with the oreo update for the xz premium? Other carriers Telstra and Vodaone have released oreo for xz premium. Even security patches take forever with optus

Ok have to profess to bring pretty peeved at the moment. Have just traded up my Nexus 6p to an Galaxy S8+ and Tab A 8. The Nexus had been on Oreo for months and mine is even eligible for the 8.1 beta. The much hyped, but not even really new flashship phone from Samsung - which I was assured by store staff would upgrade to Oreo immediately on unboxing - comes out of the box at 7.0 and gets no update other than patches!!!!!

I bought the S8+ to get VoLTE and wifi calling (because the coverage in Tarneit, Vic is crap) but seriously expected better in terms of current software.

I wish you would enforce some honesty from your store staff. And make them aware of the content of this list... They should know it by rote, if they are recommending phones.

Amazed that according to Optus in the list above you don't currently actually sell an Oreo capable handset, and the only option currently is the "obsolete" near three year old Nexus 6p.

Can you provide any indication when Samsung will release the 8.0 update... It's not even listed above!?!

Hey @zaphid, I'm sorry to hear about this experience. We'll definitely make sure our stores are across this info in future. As Dan_C mentioned above, beta testing is already underway for Android 8.0 Oreo and it should be pushed out this month.
