Android Software Updates.pngWhen a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device.  The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country.  Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides info on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 19/08/2016. If no info is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices & once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, where it’s made available for a small number of users (5% for example) initially. If no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll be gradually made available to more & more users over a period of a couple of weeks.

Hi again!

Any new updates for the Optus branded Galaxy Tab A 9.7 4G LTE (SM-P555) purchased from an Optus store?

It never seems to be on your list, and yet worldwide updates have already been released.

Thanks, Will

Hi, when will the Sony xpeira Z2 get the Android 6.0 update from Optus? Telstra and I also believe Vodafone have released it to there customers over a month ago. Why hasn't Optus?

Once again nothing on the Z2!!! Rest of the world will be eating their Nougat in a few weeks & poor Sony users still left with their Android Lollipops!!! Man Frustrated

Will the Note 5 get the security patch too?

I have a 237MB update downloading on my Note 5 at the moment. I guess that's the August security patch?

Contributor Pommster

Yep, that was the August security patch that was installed onto my Note 5.

Hi @Pommster can confirm the Note 5 has completed testing, table has been updated.

@anton1 & @arnomic no updates yet on the Z2, as soon as there's information we'll post it up.

We're just as keen as you are to find out! As it's only recently been confirmed as a finished update (22.08.16) it can take a number of weeks to reach all devices - Phil

If I have a nexus 6p bought outright from Optus but I am using a pre paid SIM with another provider, will I still get the Optus Nougat ?

Resurrecting my Optus sourced Galaxy Note 2.  Just found you've been showing current version as 5.1.1 since the 7 March update.  Just tried to update, but showing I'm on latest. Current on phone is 4.4.2.   Wondering how I can trigger the update or have you made a mistake in your list for the Galaxy note 2?  Note that I don't have a working optus sim in the phone at the moment.

Hey Rot_hacker, sorry for the late reply. Can confirm that you can still receive this. The update is from Google which is linked to your IMEI.

@anton1, apologies for the delayed reply. No ETA at this stage sorry. Best to keep an eye out here for updates.

@SamyNote2, have you tried updating your software on the Samsung Keis website?

New Contributor SamyNote2
New Contributor

Thanks Jax, I haven't tried that, was expecting it might be OTA.  But if you're saying 5.1.1 has been released for note 2, I'll install keis and give it a try.

Hi Jax K, have tried updating with Kies3, says latest software is installed (4.4.2).  I can't see anyone on the web talking about an official 5.1.1 on the Galaxy note 2.  Appreciate if someone at Optus could check if the table is correct for the note 2.

Hmm thanks for the heads up. I've just emailed this off to be double checked.

Hi.  Got my Nexus 6p last week.  It quickly updated itself to the latest Marshmallow.  When do I get Nougat?

Sorry for the delay with getting back to you on this @SamyNote2. We have confirmed that the current version is 4.4.2. We will be updating the site to reflect the correct info shortly. Thanks heaps for bringing this to our attention!

Optus Nexus 6p user here. I understand that Android 7 Nougat has passed testing at Optus for this phone. But when will I get it? I was sent an update "pre install app for Android 7" a few weeks ago but since then nothing.

Any clues gratefully appreciated!

you know theres a kink in the chain keeping us informed about software updates when the admin posts there is a typo for the current firmware for the Note 2 and they can post to let us know the typo will be fixed but after 3 days it still sits there incorrect..

Does fixing this typo require you to go through a chain od command to get approval to fix it? And there is no way a quick 2 second fix cannot just be done to edit some text on a page and rather you than you posting to say it will be fixed but you can post to say thanks for pointing out the error I have just fixed this for you and the page should now reflect the correct information..

I would also like to know if and when the Sony Z2 will get Marshmallow (or Nougat!). I see that the Samsung S5 has received it and both devices were released in early 2014. Please don't neglect this great brand and device.

@Drahkir i got marshmallow last night with an OTA toast well as an email from Sony saying the update is available. Goto"settings" and then click on "about phone" then "software update" and finally click refresh.  If it's available, it'll tell you if you can update or not. If that doesn't work plug it in to your pc and run the pc companion software.

Still waiting for Android Nougat on my Nexus 6P. Don't be so paranoid in releasing it. It will be just fine. These are Nexus devices, not Samsung or Apple that will crap their pants when something new comes up. Oops sorry, Apple never has anything new. Smiley Tongue

Just responding to that last post, it is not Optus holding up the new Nougat update for Nexus 6p phones. Optus have fully approved the upgrade and returned this information back to Google and it is now up to Google to directly upgrade the phone. This information can be found on the Optus website.
