Optus

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device.  The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country.  Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 18/07/2017. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

Any idea when the HTC 10 will be recieving the latest security updates. The last update recieved was from Jan 17 and I know other carriers have pushed out later updates.

There have been a few security issues fixed with these lastest updates which currently the Optus HTC 10 is still vulnerable to.

This is not good enough! If HTC release a security update to fix issues then I expect Optus to forward these updates onto there devices that WE pay good money for! Not release them 3 years later when they expect us to upgrade to a newer device.

Seriously considering switching carriers and taking my other accounts with me!

Hi @wasaisa, once we receive updates for testing from the manufacturer, it's listed on this blog within days. It's the most up to date information we have available.

Hi, Is the Samsung Tab S2 going to be updated from Android 6 to Android 7. My friend has one with Vodafone and they just upgraded his Tab S2 and he says it works great. Feel I'm missing out. Also the standard Samsung S6 going to be upgraded anytime in the future. Thanks Dave

I've been waiting for months now for the update on the Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge, it looked like there was some progress and now there are no tentative dates listed.

So I've opted to update from Android Geeks : http://www.android.gs/update-samsung-galaxy-s6-edge-g925i-to-android-7-0-nougat-manually/

Update is completed and the phone has updated to recent build by OTA on it's own and everything is running perfectly.

I don't understand why we can't get the new builds the same time as everone else, I've only used an OPTUS OTA build once since I've been with OPTUS and had to resort to getting the new builds on my own- also take note I've never bricked my phone doing this manually.

Hahahahahahahaha...why am I not surprised? Optus STILL hasn't changed their information on the Galaxy S6 series. This is just pathetic now. They are scamming customers hardcore and clearly don't care! Users, I encourage you to read the replies on the previous Android Updates blog post. Needless to say, I manually updated my phone to Android 7.0 without Optus' bloatware and changes, and I've never been happier. Adios!

I think that if they don't provide the updates it encourages the customers to upgrade their phones instead of the upgrading the software- just my opinion but I don't understand what takes so long to provide these firmware updates.

They (OPTUS) would make more money with this kind of strategy I guess.

As mentioned before I updated my S6 Edge manually 24/07/2017 and my phone works perfectly and the Andoid 7 OS is fantastic. My plan runs out in about a month with OPTUS been with them for years, but I'm seriously thinking about switching to another TELCO due to these kinds of issues

Other Australian telco's have had Android 7 on their Galaxy S6 phones since May.  Just saying.
