Android Software Updates – 16/02/2017

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device.  The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country.  Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 16/02/2017. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

HTC Australia has confirmed Optus customers will get the update next week

How did you get that infomation out of HTC Australia?

Hi @Optus @MattJ, Nougat on the Galaxy S7 is working great for me, no IMS issues thankfully. The only bug / glitch I've encountered is the 'Keep screen turned off' option (Settings - Display) doesn't seem to work. It turns on, but the phone will still turn on in my pocket. Could you please pass this along to your testing team / Samsung to check if it's a Nougat issue or a once off case? I reset my phone after updating to Nougat by the way. Thanks! Smiley Happy

Hi All,
Do you plan to roll out wifi calling and VOLTE on the Huawei Mate 9?

Cheers Anthony

Just downloaded manually 25mb update for my GS7. What could this be? jsut security patch or...

Contributor savage01

Usually an update that size is just a security update  (I got it as well on my S7).

But after that update I can no longer see my sd card.

Hey @anthony, any updates to feature availability for the Huawei Mate 9 should be made available via our blog here once we have confirmed info on an update.

Hi savage01

Just got the same update to but mine was more like 33mb as it was for my s7 edge. I'm thinking it could be to  patch the ims error, at least in part as the error no longer shows up after updating when I turn volte off.

Successfully updated Optus contract HTC 10 to Nougat! Looking good... But there is no NFC quick toggle even though you can rearrange the tiles now.

Update hasn't rolled out yet to my HTC 10.

New Contributor Victrix

It might take a while, they always do staggered rollout.

Member Dc20011

@Victrix @Esther any more details on the staggered rollout? Is it similar with Samsungs rollout (small % of IMEIs, then the rest will follow in a few weeks?).

New Contributor Victrix
New Contributor

Yeah, its usually like that.

Member Dc20011

Apparently Vodafone HTC 10 didn't have a staggered rollout. Guess I will have to wait.

@DC2011 - no further word I'm afraid. Hopefully won't be too much longer!

Vodafone had staggered rollout for the first 2 days.

Thanks for the info @Victrix. Brad from Vodafone help and support said it wasn't staggered. Looks like it was considering many vodafone customers didnt get the update for a while.

Sony had already released Nougat update for the Xperia Z5 series. When is it coming to Optus Xperia Z5?

Hi,

When can we expect a firmware update for the Huawei Mate 9? It's still running on a December firmware.

New Contributor OGriobhtha

Still no word on the HTC 10? Pathetic how you don't keep customers informed.

@Optus Any update on the S6/S6 Edge VoLTE testing? Is this back in testing with an expected roll-out date, or is it still suspended?

Update has been released.

My htc10 was a gift is telstra unlocked and I use a Optus sim card...so I take it I have to wait for fn telstra....

New Contributor OGriobhtha

@Victrix ... Well, you must be lucky ... Still waiting here!  But still no word from Optus either, they're really pathetic in being forthcoming with any updates. Stock HTC 10 from Optus, same CID ... Still waiting for the update!

Member Dc20011

No update yet either

New Contributor Victrix

Maybe the update was stopped again for Optus devices. But I can still see the update live on the HTC server. Maybe its just made not visible to the device's software update app.

Well everything works 100% so far so theres no issues. Hopefully this feedback will help Optus and HTC release the update again.

@Victrix @Dc20011 -- I've managed to pull the OTA and apply manually; now have Nougat running.  As the lack of support and information from Optus is just pathetic.

I have had no issues so far with it, it is running so much faster now - UI is so much more responsive.

New Contributor Victrix
New Contributor

@OGriobhtha yeah the update makes the phone much better. I especially like the "Touch Autoexposure" setting in the camera now. I really missed this from the HTC M7 days.

How about you update your CUSTOMERS in relation to the software update for the HTC 10! How hard is it to contact the software testing team, finding out what the problem is and a forecast of roll-out then advising your CUSTOMERS. We spend hundreds of dollars on a phone only to be treated like absolute rubbish. How hard is it to do the things I've asked?

New Contributor OGriobhtha
New Contributor

@Victrix ... Yes, and finally the camera brightness slider is more responsive as well; but still prefered the M8 camera ease of use.  The adaptive brightness is nice.  A massive step up! Pity I had to take the manual step of updating it, where people are 10 days left waiting after the "late February" expected release! Optus do need to be more proactive in updating customers, or I feel they will lose them to other providers who actually give them a more realistic time frame & or actually update them.

@Pete @MattJ I have a Galaxy S4 and have a software update pending download, all it tells me is its size and it says stability improvements. Is this a patch to 5.0.1 or is it likely to be 5.1.1? The download is approx 285Mb in size.

Was hoping for the update for HTC 10 to be pushed out during the week, but decided to manually update with some free time today. So far runs real smooth. Will report back if any issues arise.

@Optus,

The S6 Nougat update is rolling out elsewhere around the world. When you do think you'll commence testing, let alone think about releasing it?

New Contributor Missrippa
New Contributor

@tolga hi . Was chatting with samsung themselves last night.  The update for the s6 and s6 models is being sent for testing next week and is due for release in a couple of weeks .

New Contributor tolga
New Contributor
Hi @Missrippa, cheers for that, but do you represent Optus? I'm looking for an official response out of @Optus
New Contributor Missrippa
New Contributor

@tolga hi. No im not an employee of either optus or samsung. Just an annoyed customer trying to find out when we will get nougat. I downloaded the security patch that was pushed to our phones a couple of days ago and now my phone is freezing constantly and getting very hot.  I was trying to get nougat to see if it will fix the problem  or if I'll need to start over with a new non samsung phone . Its a bit ridiculous that it takes so long to get the software update from when google officially released it over 8 months ago

Occasional Visitor dfoxy1976

@MattJ @Optus CUSTOMERS TO @Optus. Are you there? Getting a little bit annoyed about the lack of response re HTC10 update

So there is nothing to report on Android Software Updates since 16 Feb?  Come on people, this is not customer service.

I read LAST WEEk that telcos in the UK & Europe are rolling out the Nougate update for Samsung Galaxy S6.

This means that the delay - as posted in the 16 Feb update - was resolved some time ago.  These telcos would do similar testing to Optus.

So they have done their testing and are rolling it out.

And what have we from Optus... [insert audio of crickets chirping here...]

You have to lift you game, please!!!

Hi all,

A new update has just been posted here. I've now locked this thread so please head over to our latest blog for any questions you may have. Please note the following according to our latest update:

HTC 10 - Testing for the 7.0 update has been completed and the update approved as of today (14/03/17) however is still required to be distributed by HTC and this doesn't occur immediately

Samsung S6 and S6 Edge - We're testing the March security update for 6.0.1 but are not currently testing an update for Nougat

Samsung S7 and S7 Edge - The 7.0 update has begun rolling out so if you haven't received it yet but would like to, you should check for the latest update via your phones settings but note the download amount and possible excess data charges if updated of our mobile/cellular network
