Android Software Updates.pngWhen a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device.  The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country.  Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides info on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 15/11/2016. If no info is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices & once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, where it’s made available for a small number of users (5% for example) initially. If no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll be gradually made available to more & more users over a period of a couple of weeks.

Hi suburbanbert. No news on VoLTE for HTC devices at the moment (I have an HTC One A9 so understand!). When we do we'll update the page here 🙂

@Guy Just regarding the S7's update, is that to enable Band 1 and 8 aggregation or just enable them period? Thanks!

Hey @danz207, any information we have is communicated through our update. Our information suggests this update will enable Band 1 (2100MHz) & Band 8 (2600MHz). In regards to aggregation - this isn't information I have on hand at this time.

Got the Volte update for my Note 5 over the weekend, but when I activated it I received a text message that VoLTE could not be activated and link to compatible phones was given. The Note 5 is not on the list. Isn't VoLTE enable for the Note 5 yet despite the option being available in settings?

Oh no! Really sorry to hear that Pommster 😞 I'd recommend having a chat with our 24/7 Mobile tech team on 131344 to have them check out what's causing this.  Additional settings need to be added on our end to enable this. Can you please confirm if the handset was initially purchased from Optus?

Hi Optus,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The latest update seems to have messed up with my GPS now my device cannot lock on a location unless I reboot the phone. Can you please assist?

Thanks,

Pommster

@Marie, yes it is an original Optus bought Note 5

Oh no! Really sorry to hear that N_ 😞

Hmm not too sure what what might be causing this.

We've seen some customers experience issues in the past with having the My Optus App monitoring their network performance.

You can switch this off in the apps settings.

Let me know how you go with this and if it helps.

Cheers

So it looks like the update I received. On my Note 5 last Saturday was the October security update, though it gave me the option to select VoLTE too. I understand VoLTE hasn't been launched for the Note 5 yet (as per advice on a phone call yesterday).  Any idea when VoLTE will be launched for Note 5?

The Galaxy S7/S7 edge mentions enabling "Band 8 (2600 MHz)", however band 8 is not 2600 MHz. Band 8 is 900 MHz.

Did you actually mean its going to enable Band 7? (which is actually 2600 MHz). Surely the network/device team didn't get this wrong...

And why were the 2 bands disabled in the first place?? We have an artificially crippled phone? This was never advertised or displayed in the Galaxy S7/edge specifications on the Optus website as bands being disabled with the Optus firmware, so we had to assume all hardware capability was enabled!

Aman_B

Definitely not the case @jasonmn. The handsets are sold as they are received from the manufacturers. The bands are correct and these are being added so that the frequencies can be added to these bands to make it work in more areas.

Hi - Can you tell me when the LG G5 will get the version 7 update please? In this blog update it says that version 7 for the LG G5 is in testing and should be available mid-november. So it's the 1st December now. I was hoping for another blog update yesterday as I can see you usually have one mid-month and one at the end of the month. Any news would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Will this update for the S7 enable 4g+?

4G+ refers to the frequencies your phone can connect to. The S7 can connect to 4G+ out of the box, it just encompasses them all under the 4G title.

No change, still showing 2 updates available, but refuses to download. Maybe server problem? Optus, could you check with lg. ? This update went live on 2/12/16, but so far the server refuses to deliver.

We'll certainly pass it on PDT.

We haven't received an alert about this from our Tech Team. I'd recommend reporting the issue to them on 131344 so they can have this looked into further and maybe have a case raised if they can't resolve the issue. If they do this they'll provide you with a reference number that you're welcome to pop back here and post so others can add their issue to the same case.

We'd be happy to follow it up with them once a case has been raised.

Did they actully perform the testing on the Galaxy S6 Edge+? I find it hard to belive it was very thouroughly tested at all.

My phone is now an expensive samll tablet that only works on wifi. The new firmware seems incompatible with Australian mobile networks. (see my thread in the android section for details, i will be bringing it back under warranty, but you dont need to be an expert to know whats happening).

LG have NFI.   They are clueless.     Nougat has NOT been released yet.  Tried to explain about the 2 updates and couldn't get thru to the CSR that I still couldn't download the updates.

Well you were right about lg.. clueless.. sort of stated that it wasn't finished. But if that is the case, why is it showing as available and why has one person on Whirlpool been successful?

Crazy stuff.

@Aman_B

Band 8 as mentioned in the S7 update is not 2600 MHz LTE. Please see: http://www.radio-electronics.com/info/cellulartelecomms/lte-long-term-evolution/lte-frequency-spectr... or http://niviuk.free.fr/lte_band.php

And again, the Galaxy S7 was released in March 2016 with full band 1 and band 7 and 8 support out of the box as per specifications listed on Samsung website. Why is it that a November 2016 Optus firmware update was required to enable these bands?

Shae
Trusted Contributor
Trusted Contributor

Hey jasonmn, just wanted to pass along some further clarification we've had that will hopefully answer your earlier question. The team have advised that there was an error within the update that we've received and Band 8 is 900MHz as you've pointed out - Thanks for the heads up. When we launched the S7/S7 Edge, there was an issue found where these bands were not available on the handset over the Optus network. At the time, Optus had very few LTE Band 1 and Band 8 base stations, however as we begin to launch base stations with these bands, we've released the firmware update to ensure compatibility with the future LTE rollout plans on areas with these bands. Hope this provides some insight, but I'm happy to update you further if I can on network availability in your area via PM. We can have a look at our coverage maps to determine if these bands are available in your area currently or if they're planned within the next 6 months.
