When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device.  The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country.  Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 14/03/2017. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

@Kab63Thank you very much, i figure out a way to solve it without voiding warranty. I use smartswitch to reinstall the firmware by using emergency software recovery and initialization. Still, thank you very much for your help!

Dannythehumble Hi I'm so glad you got it fixed This update has caused many issues with me as well and smart switch was the one thing that actually helped. So glad you solved it.

@LucyS hi - I've asked 2 questions in this thread - would you see if someone at Optus could answer them please?

Thank you.

@tizza42 We're not currently running tests on the 7.0 update for the S6 or S6 Edge as we haven't received the update from Samsung as yet. We have, however, received the latest security update to test to help keep customers phones secure. As for the number of people in the tema, this isn't information we would share.

@MattJ Thanks for answering my question.  Since Optus (Singtel) is a major telco in the Asia Pacific region, has Samsung at least advised you as to when you will receive this update?

I understand that there is "selected" roll out of this update by telcos in Europe.

No info yet sorry @tizza42 and I wouldn't want to estimate either as past experience shows it can vary quite significantly from handset to handset and manufacturer to manufacturer

Given that the VoLTE update for the Galaxy S6 was meant to out around November last year and how now dissappeared completely, its fair to assume the Galaxy S8 will be released before Nougat is released for the S6.
Oh and the Android Security Patch level is from 1st September 2016 on my S6 Edge
