Android Software Updates

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device. The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country. Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of the 11/07/2019. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved. Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

Is the line above for the Huawei supposed to be 9.1.0.302 or still just 9.0? Mate 20 Pro 9.0.0.302

@pgp66 Pretty sure it's a typo as @Alistar said they are working on 9.1.0.302. Hopefully this means it will be released soon?

@pgp66  and @ryballs , yeah it was a typo Smiley Wink I've updated to the correct information. We've been told it was completed on the 5th of July so hopefully very soon!

Since it wasn't addressed in the last update blog I'll ask again. The pie update for HTC U11 was released last month. Can we have an update on a time frame of release from optus?

Sorry @jakedamusss  I haven't had an update back in over three weeks, let me email them today and see if they have any information I can release.

When will be the next update for Huawei mate 10 pro? The security update is still dated December 2018.

@jakedamusss I believe field testing is to be conducted. Usually 2 weeks after the testing date however this can be dependant on how the testing goes.

Hopefully Optus gets June and July Android Security Patches out pronto because these include urgent critical patches to prevent infection from AgentSmith Virus.

This is why updates are so very important. Prevent us from serious malware and viruses.

@Dazkatmaka11My HTC hasn't had a security update in 9 months...

@jakedamusss That's why Optus need to improve and start being more security conscious especially for its customers.

Most of us are cautious and probably would not be infected, but like sms and email scams there are those who get fooled by these things. And sometimes even the most cautious person can slip up and click on something by mistake.

That's why security updates are a huge problem with Optus, they just take too long to update devices if at all.

The latest debacle with it taking 5 months to update the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is why I dumped Huawei for Samsung. At least with the S10+ I've had 2 updates in 7 weeks. A lot better than Huawei.

It says here the mate 20pro is on 9.1 firmware. However my phone is still on previous version and says it's up to date?! Any suggestions

@Sami_G I gave up with my mate 20 pro because of this Huawei/Optus updating debacle , was let out of contract no penalty.  Recontracted with S10 Plus. Says latest update in testing but I received it on the 17th July.

And I can honestly say the updates are much more frequent with Samsung and Optus.

The S10 battery life runs circles around the mate 20pro,  12 hours Screen on time with 23 hours standby and 5 hours of Facebook usage. I was lucky to get 9 hours Screen on time with no standby and barely 2 hours of Facebook with the mate 20pro.

Plus fingerprint sensor is super accurate.

Best move I made

@Dazkatmaka11

How on earth are you managing 12 hours screen on time? Best I am able to get is 4.

@BroBro What i did was put pretty much most apps to sleep with the exception of a few play Services, gmail etc. Also restricted background data. I also used ccswe app manger for Samsung to disable apps and services I don't use like ANT and print services, Samsung pay.

I usually average about 10hrs sot with 20 to 24 hours standby.
