When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device.  The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country.  Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides info on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 10/08/2015. If no info is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices & once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, where it’s made available for a small number of users (5% for example) initially. If no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll be gradually made available to more & more users over a period of a couple of weeks.

@MattJ Thanks for the update.

Wondering if the device called "Galaxy Note 10.1 4G" should be Galaxy tab S 10.1 4G?

Cheers

@DraftPunk we used to sell the Galaxy Note 10.1 4G as well as the Tab S so that one is correct but we're working on getting info for the Tab S for everyone as well as I know a few of you are interested in it

@MattJ Thanks for the update. Just an FYI I received the 5.0 update last week for the Galaxy Tab S 10.1 4G.  Cheers.

When will we see an update for galaxy S5 from Android 5.0 to something more stable? I constantly have email crashes,  and have taken all steps to resolve like wiping the cache etc,  but no improvement.

Forums Community Manager

@Les As above, if there's nothing in the table then we haven't received an update to test from the manufacturer. When we do have info the My Optus Blog will be the first place we post it.

Thanks MattJ,

Why do other providers like T-Mobile already now provide 5.1.1 for Galaxy S5 to help improve the stability, and we don't have an even have the update to start testing from the manufacturer?

Maybe I'm simplifying something far more complicated?

I guess the longer you test something the better it is. T-Mobile in their haste to fix one problem might have created a new one. Smiley Happy

@Les Carrier testing is definitely a factor when it comes to the date you'll receive an update as @Yeldarb has pointed out however we need to receive the update from the manufacturer first. We haven't received this one yet so it's not currently a factor.

It's up to the manufacturer (and occasionally a joint decision with the carrier) as to if/when they'll receive the update for testing so I can't really speculate as to why we haven't got it yet.

Even though this article is old it does give some insight into the update process.

Still nothing for the Note 4? 5.1.1 is already on Sprint in the US.

@AndWhat As above, if the info isn't in the table it's because the manufacturer hasn't provided the update to us for testing. When we get it we'll test as quickly as we can so we can approve it and have the manufacturer distribute it

Hey @Andy & team,

According to the table above, the most current version for the HTC One M8 is 5.0.2, but mine's running 5.0.1, build 4.18.980.9, with no updates available when I run a check. How come?

Cheers,

Fern

@LustStarrr Hey Fern thanks for the question! We've checked with our device team and they've advised the latest version should be 5.0.2. I'm just sending this example over to them and I'll update when I get word!

(whoops, accidentally posted comment half-finished)

Another user, @OGriobhtha, raised the same query, unanswered , on a previous Android Update post in the community too. Therefore, it's not an isolated issue. Look forward to hearing what the device team say. Thanks! 😊

Many countries are getting the 5.1.1 update for the sm-n910g note 4 any news on when we will be getting it out will it be after the launch of the Note 5?

Hi i was wondering if the "Unauthorised access has been detected" software bug for samsusng s6 edge will be fixed in this update. Alot of people have been having this problem.

AND its very annoying especially for a new phone.

Also is the phones battery, ram (ram leak), lag problems *in chrome, the appstore fixed as well?

Thankyou

Forums Community Manager

We've posted our latest information here @adamhumphrey https://community.optus.com.au/t5/Announcements/Android-Software-Updates-24-08-2015/ba-p/128692

Unfortunately at the moment there's no news on an update for the Samsung Note 4

Thats really poor from Samsung and Optus yet again. Other countries get updates first and we always get them 6-12 months later after the next flagship phone is released.
