Android Software Updates - 1/08/2018

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device. The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country. Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of the  01/08/2018. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

Still minor fix for mate 10 pro. Even the date is not confirmed yet.Others received far more feature updates and we still stuck in minor bug fixes. It is waste of money to buy a phone from optus. Big mistake I did.

Im on the same boat HML I contacted updates support and they said the face unlock will be coming in this upcoming update. Biggest regret was to buy an optus branded phone. The updates are at least 3 months behind. Get your game up OPTUS!!!!!! Huawei is doing a very great job upgrading features including face unlock, improved night mode, GPU turbo and 960 fps slowmo but at this rate its gonna take f***king forever.

Did they say any time frame for upcoming update? If not I will sell this and get a unlocked dual sim version.

Hey guys,

Simply put - If there’s no information in our latest software updates table then we haven't yet received an update from the manufacture (in this case Huawei) to begin the testing process.

As soon information is made available, we'll be sure to include an update in upcoming blog.

@HML well in the livechat with the optus technical person they confirmed that face unlock is coming with the update TBC. Reading on XDA developers the australian unlocked version dual sim version has already got improved night mode shot AKA its one update ahead of the optus version. I bought my optus branded mate 10 pro from  allphones off a 20% off ebay deal would of bought the dual sim version had it not been out of stock. That being said i wouldnt sell it id rather save the money for mate 20 pro (heard its gonna be a beast). But lesson learnt carrier branded phones are utter garbage

@Dan_C

Then why does the description say testing in progress? From memory its been the same description for the last two android updates blog. Might as well say nothing if you guys have no news on updates. Checking the Vodafone updates their MAte 10 is currently going through testing as well. I expect both phones to finish at relatively the same time.

I have been in contact with Huawei directly, they called me tonight and said Android 8.1/Emui 8.1 is available in Australia for mate 10 pro but Optus hasn’t finished testing it or whatever the hell they are doing...

Huawei P10 pro, Current firmware 8.0.0 does not allow the forwarding photographs from the message app, has error message " maximum length reached" and the photo can not be forwarded. Tried the same message on my 2 year old P6 with version 8.1.0 and the forward function works. Need to sort this out quickly as this is a function i use all the time and my older phone with the newer firmware is quite capable of these functions. Been going backwards and forwards with Optus and Huawei for the last 5 weeks , phone went in for repair and came back with the same issue total waste of my  time Optus support staff and Huewei staff trying to time find the issue, after 5 weeks Huawei admitted that there was bugs in the old firware (8.0.0) and it doent matter how many times it goes of for repair as it firmware related. T%he only fix for this phone is a firmware update which was presented to Optus in July and Optus still will not realse this firmware.

Yea man.. Australian dual Sim version already got the Gpu turbo update as well. Version 8.0.0.142. We still stuck at the same old firmware without any top features.

I'm still on version 8.0.0.134... I don't have the dual sim version... I assume my handset which I have just got on a 24 month plan is under a different update schedule to the regular users.

That makes sense @Tedddancing. The dual SIM version isn't being sold by Optus.

Carrier variants of Android software are on a completely different release schedule.

An article was posted up on Android Central on the 16/07/18. The article includes the GPU Turbo rollout schedule

"Huawei P10 and P10 Plus — Coming November 2018 to all markets."

Minor fix, has been that way since end of June.

New features on the phone, cant get that because we cant even have a minor fix in a reasonable timeframe.

Huawei have apparently said they will be releasing more updates in Aus for the phones, bi-monthly. Does that mean that those bi-monthly updates will be all rolled together and we get bi-yearly updates because we went with Optus?

So looks like 8.0.0.136 was released in Australia today for mate 10 pro. Hopefully optus won't waste too much time in getting it out to customers.

yes i can see it on firmware finder. Hopefully it will come out in the next few days. Is it possible to flash the firmware from firmware finder onto out devices>
Member Teddancing

It's possible from what I've seen to flash the firmware but it requires a lot of risk, there would be no guarantee that it would work with optus afterwards and you may brick your device in the process.

Tried to install it. But it says unauthorized package.

@Optus We deserve more efficient and better software updates. Carriers are a large reason why android software updates are slow.

When are you guys updating the S7 and s7 edge's current OS in the blog? The rollout for 8.0 for those devices was completed a month ago now and you guys ha e still failed to state this in the last 2 blogs posted. Please fix your mistake and show the actual S7 and S7 Edge OS version

Member KimxK

Also, for the S7 and S7 edge there have been three further updates rolled out that Optus haven't done yet.

Optus is on EREM, and since then there has been ERG2, ERG7, and ERGE, the first of which apparently fixed the cell standby battery drain.

HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro , since it seems were going to waitng a quite a while for the updates, promised since the last week in June.... Here is a work around for the Huawei message app issue, i.e cant forward Iphone X photos and cant open voice mails. If you have a lot of messages don't trying using the current installed version of messaging (APP) as when you transfer from the Huawei app it wont transfer all your messages across and also it jumbles up the messages and numbers and that's a really bad thing. I have found if you go to the playstore and install "TEXTRA" set it up as your default messaging app you will get your voice mails working and integration with the Iphone X will no longer be an issue.

I can confirm that the update is sitting on the huawei server, one of the files even has optus incorporated into the filename. It went up on 2/8/18. Why still no update?

HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro , since it seems were going to waiting a quite a while for the updates. Here is a work around for the Yamaha AV Controller app that freezes when the phone come off sleep or is unlocked. The Huawei Mate powers down apps to save battery life unfortunately this freezes the Yamaha app. The work around is Setting > Battery > Launch >  select the app from the list and set to manage  Manually , AUTO launch on, Secondary launch on and run in background.

This is a review on the 14th of June in XDA it was provided by Hauwei, country of origin Czech Republic.

There is another update available for Huawei Mate 10 Pro and support for this fantastic smartphone is just fantastic. Previous update brings new security patches and also Face unlock support, firmware 8.0.0.145 brings June 2018 security patches and also improvement camera with modified night mode, so you can take better pictures in low light conditions.

...and we're only going to get the 8.0.0.136 update for the next one! One of the reasons I chose Huawei was because I heard they were great at rolling out updates. If this is Optus' fault the ACCC could definitely get involved. I was almost thinking about returning my phone as I've only had it close to a month, but I still like it too much.
New Contributor Pony64

My last phone was a Nexus P6 made by Huawei and i expected the same level of customer service and firmware support. For reasons unknown Optus dont seem to be any hurry to pass on the new firmware, Optus have been promising Mate 10 Pro customers sinse the last week in  June but not supplied. Huawei have admitted there are firmware bugs in there 8.0.0 (134) and a lot of customers have been living with these bugs, Huawei have done the right thing by updating the firmware and we just wait.

How long does testing take at Optus?

The length of time it takes to test an update will vary. In general, minor updates go through one round of testing while major updates will go through two, even three on occasions however this is subject to change.

In most circumstances, each round of testing should not take any longer than 2 weeks.

Evidently....... June to August Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Looking at the vodafone updates site, their testing for the mate 10 has currently stopped as of 10th of aug. Both carriers are incompetent at producing updates for their phones. Therefore the lesson is never buy a carrier branded phone because the onus lies on the carrier rather than the OEM. OEMS want updates released asap for their consumers but optus could care less.

OPTUS WHEN.......?

New Member VidyaVox

Mate, there is slight chance I say but don’t expect a source code update from Lenovo.

  1. Low range devices doesn’t get too much attention. They will push the small updates which means you might get some good features in the same version of android and bug fixes (needless to say).
  2. Lenovo hasn’t said a word about low range device. Keeping in mind they released Marshmallow, I won’t be surprised if they release Nougat because policy states that it should receive two major updates within the span of 18 months of release.
  3. Don’t feel bad if they don’t release the OTA. You can always score aftermarket shiz. They are cooler than stock. Cheers!

What no 15/08/2018 Optus firmware updates?

Next blog is on track for publishing this afternoon.

I've received a response from the team.

They've advised that the update hasn't been released to Optus for testing. I've been assured that they'll be following this one up with Huawei.

We won't have an update on the 8.0.0.136 update this week.

Using firmware finder for Huawei, I can see that the optus update for the mate 10 pro, 8.0.0.136 has been sitting on the Huawei server since the 2/8/18!! I can't install it because it hasn't been authorised, but I can download it! Surely Optus isn't that incompitent are they!!!???

 Hi Dan_C,

i think it is time the Huawei Mate 10 Pro had its own page of firmware related issues as this process is taking way too long considering Opus have had the new firmware since July, Huawei have confirmed this.
