When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device.  The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country.  Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 09/05/2017. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

Is there any point to this blog area? Do Optus ever look at them and answer questions? The reason I ask, is that I was told by Yes Optus to come to this area for help, as my Optus Galaxy J1 is stuck on android 4.4.4, yet the same phone from Optus now has Lollipop 5.1. I was told that someone from Optus would tell me why mine hasn't updated, yet my last post in the previous thread has been closed off without any attention from Optus. Are Optus helping their customers here, or is this a complete waste of time, and a way to shift focus from the problem? Thanks.

Hi @viewer,  thanks for letting us know. Yes Crowd is a community help forum but yes we moderate the pages here and answer where we can. Happy to help. I've just referred your Galaxy J1 issue to the team that handles the updates. I'll get back to you with some clarification.

Now that the Sony is finally on the list, lets hope it includes the VoLTE function and even better if it has WiFi calling when it arrives.

When will the Google security update for the Mate 9 actually be rolled out?  Also, what firmware version is it?

What's the hold-up for the P9? If it takes much longer I might have to try unbranding the phone.

My Z5 is updating right now OTA

Big let down

The update went through no worries, the Z5 is now on 7.0

BUT there is nothing in it. NO VoLTE so of course no WiFI calling.

A few of my icons have changed from square to circles and introduced some hiddeious colours, esp for Contacts.

All I was waiting for was VoLTE and WiFI Calling to replace the almost extinct Homezone so now it looks like we need a new carrier as I refuse to buy Apple or Samsung which is all Optus seem to be interesting in pushing on us, well not me. I already paid my money 12 months ago for the Sony and when I want a new phone it wont be either Samsung or Apple.

do you have any news for when the S8+ updates will be out?

Bah.  The Sony update is 32.3.A.0.376 which is the release from February, which has issues with low in call volume. Where's 32.3.A.2.33 from March which fixes the sound issue and applies the March security patches from Google?

Hi @JenniferSwift, as soon as we receive an update for testing from the manufacturers, it will be listed above in the blog. We don't have a schedule for the S8+ unfortunately.

Thanks

Erik

So I got my android 7.0 update for my Z5 premium today same time as the TV got its android update from Sony too I assume this is because I don't have any optus branding or firmware I got my update directly from Sony.

I do have one question, voLte isn't enabled is either the phone or optus not supporting this option? someone on the forum mentioned it for the Z5 and it doesn't come enabled though I wouldn't want to use it if it uses data for calling and I don't think it would be HD audio. I did try dialing *#*#4636#*#* it showed the voLte flag to enable but it didn't stay enabled.

Hi All
Any reason why WIFI Calling and VOLTE have not been enabled on the Huawei Mate 9? Overseas variants (UK, US and Malaysia) have this feature activated. I called Huawei Customer Service and they advised the carrier must enable this feature from their end.

Please advise what’s going on? You shutdown Homezone (great product) and then promote WIFI calling, but don’t activate on Huawei’s Flagship model?

@Aman_B, do you mean that Huawei haven't given you the updated software yet or that you're waiting for them to talk to you about something to finish testing?

So, looks like the S6 / S6 Edge has commenced rollout ... but nothing for the S6 Edge Plus

I see a few requests for information around the place; why so hard to reply ?

Maybe someone could afford a single character response:

a) Technically hard

b) Not interested

c) Too busy

d) We are getting to it

Optus, Yes we frustrate.

@rimmel ive got the s6 edge plus and basically get ignored all the time . The edge plus is the top of the line phone and haven't had any updates all year

@Scott_M you still didn't answer my question. Ive been following these update blogs for about 2 years and im yet to recieve a clear and concise answer to my multiple questions. I already fully understood the update process and i know you guys keep denying that you have nougat for the s6 edge plus despite google and samsung comfirming optus and the other carriers recieved it months ago. Vodafone are about  to roll out 7.1.1 for the s6edge plus and optus still saying nothing. time to change phone carriers im thinking.

@Aman_B, That's a shame that Optus still can't get VoLTE working for the S6. I was hoping to give the technology a try as I doubt I'll be with Optus come the end of my contract in July.

I have asked Optus a number of times why they have not updated the Samsung Galaxy J1 model SM-J100Y This Optus sold J1, has not received any update to android from version 4.4 to Lollipop 5.1. Samsung replies that their latest J1, which is model number (SM-J120ZZDNXSA) is capable of android 5.1 .Optus continually advises me, that the updates are provided by Samsung, and thus I should ask Samsung when a new version will be available.I have now received an email from Samsung, and they say it is the provider, Optus , whom should release new software. Whom am I to believe?

@Jack_gecko the version is

32.3.a.0.376

So it's older version,  I was hoping it would've been the newer version. Yet too install it still through.

Thanks

Erik

@Jack_gecko

@Erik17

Build number does indeed end in .376 however the features your quoting for the newer build seemed to of been released already unless Sony has found more issues of the same which I can see in software update history in my phone

I know it says "7.0 update – Estimated testing completion mid to late May" for the Galaxy S6, but it's 25 May and I think that's late enough - don't you?
