Android Software Updates - 07/05/2018

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device. The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country. Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of  07/05/2018. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

It's been a while for the HTC u11. Maybe next month?

Blog Author

It's not something I can confirm at this stage @Laoma40.

Updates are sent through weekly and we're usually made aware 1-2 months before the expected roll out date.

We'll keep you posted 🙂

Hey guys,

New here but have the mate 10 Pro, there's a minor update that improves the camera and fixef the black screen issue. It's been released globally but I haven't gotten it yet. Any news please as it's getting really frustrating not being able to unlock the phone sometimes.

Here is the link, just FYI:

After the update on Galaxy S8, the date on the lock screen has a red tint, it's not completely white like before. Anyone else has this problem?

Are we going to get the February update for the Mate 10 Pro at any point? Still stuck on the January update, pretty poor support for a flagship phone that optus have advertised the hell out of.

I posted about it above and was totally ignored which is unacceptable. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Mate 10 Pro here and I was about to to port to  Telstra but decided this was a nice phone. But 2 months in and were are in May now and we should be on the March / April patch by now. Yet stilll on January.

This is unaceptable from both Hauwei and Optus to allow its user to use an unsecure phone on its network.

Also why is their no Wifi Calling yet ?

Now I regret my decsion to get a a Pixel 2 XL on Telstra network I'll be lodging a copalint soon with a CSR and asking o hand the phone back and cancel my contract fee free if Optus can not provide a secure phone on a high end plan

I was actually going to go with Telstra but I thought the plan and phone were going to be a better value for money but the updates are an issue. I hope Optus can at least comment otherwise I'm flashing mine with the global rom for faster updates.

I would just like to know when the android 8.1 update for the mate 10 pro is coming, I hope the long time since the last update is because Optus are waiting on that.

Any news on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3?

Blog Author

I've checked our device report and I'm afraid there isn't any new info on the Tab 3. We'll keep you posted.

I love how they don't bother responding back to us.... This is great.

Ah, sorry @Itsmoe, I didn't mean to ignore you. I haven't received any information in regard to the Mate 10 Pro camera fix you've linked.

We're due for another update in a weeks time. Hopefully we have some more info available then.

If the update isn't mentioned in the report, I'll gladly reach out to our product team and ask whether they've received a new MR.

It's alright, please see what the situation is and let us know when you can.

@AndrewTran, the clock on the lock screen can adapt to the background colour. You can change this in the clock and face widgets setrings in the lock screen and security section of settings.

I can probably guess Oreo 8.0 for the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is coming either this or next month right?

Blog Author

It's hard to say at this stage @Benjamen50

Samsung did suspend the rollout of 8.0 for the S7 family of devices, but as of yesterday it's resumed.

There was an issue causing the handset to unexpectedly reboot.

As always, I'll update the blog as more information comes our way.

Any time frame for 8.1 update for Nokia 6?
Frequent Visitor
Frequent Visitor

@Ivan77 ; If it's like the Nokia 5(unbranded), the only way I was able to get an update from 7.1.2 was to;

1) take out SIM & SD cards.

2) Factory reset phone.

3) Put phone into flight mode.

4) Turn on wi-fi only.

5) Download a VPN app.

6) Set VPN to Netherlands.

7) Update phone.

If the phone connects to Optus network even once the VPN won't help.

It seems like the network assigns an area code and Nokia discriminate based on that.
