Latest Android updates

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device. The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country. Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of the 07/03/2019. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

And there we have it. Wifi calling to blame as mentioned earlier... gah

13th March we will then be told sometime in April. Looks like ill be doing the manual update to 206 this weekend

13th March, I don't see this happening, why is that I wonder? Is it something to do with the bulls#it we have been fed for the last 4 months.....I think so.

Finally received a call from the TIO Dispute resolution manager, I told him the current situation and what has been happening, he asked me what I want optus to do..I said release the firmware update without wifi calling, the handset doesn't have it now so another few months without it won't matter. It's the current security updates and more importantly bug fixes that Huawei have fixed from the initial release that's urgently required.

He said if they offer a contract release would that suffice, I said not really because even if you choose a different handset you are still bound by optus meddling with the firmware to add un-needed bloatware. And Vodafone and Telstra are too expensive.

He will suggest to optus to release an as-is firmware.

He is going to give them 10 days to respond, before making a ruling if no resolution happens.

Let's see what goes down.

The Complainant would like Optus Mobile to resolve the complaint by making available the firmware update.

Information that may assist resolution

The Australian Consumer Law may apply to the circumstances of this complaint.

ο‚·         Section 54 provides a guarantee for goods to be of an acceptable quality

ο‚·         Section 55 provides goods will reasonably fit for any purpose the consumer specified at point of sale

ο‚·         Section 60 provides services will be provided with due care and skill

ο‚·         Section 61 provides services will be fit for either an implied or expressed purpose

These clauses may be relevant because the Complainant says Optus are not making available updates for his mobile handset.

No mention of the Razer Phone 2 - why stock a phone you don't support?  Razer is claiming since the phone is sold by Optus, they will be releasing 9.0 pie for it, but Optus says Razer will be releasing 9.0 pie. Which is it guys?  When will Razer Phone 2 receive some love? Cheers.

OK - been waiting a while for the Note 8 to get an update. Today is finally the day - or is it - nothing so far.

Do Optus have any active participation in these boards or is it just a place for discontent to fester? If any staff types are out there, an update on the Note 8 would be much appreciated.

@SteveV  I haven't done the hisuite patch with 206. But I decided to do the .198 dload yesterday. A lot of improvements, even boot up takes half the time, Google Pay is working, I've activated all my cards and tried the default card worked in woolies. Camera seems better, Noooo call dropouts and even call recording is working, which wouldn't on .122

I have disabled the powegenie service too.

Has February security patch.

Quite happy with this at the moment.

Don't forget to check out this guy's Optus sport and my Optus app automatically launches Facebook if installed. Quite alarming that Optus would be so sloppy with building apps on the Facebook SDK.

I guess Optus missed the 'target' for the Note8... nearly 3 months behind in security updates and now this major version delay? 😫

Come on guys, this is pretty average.

Regular Contributor

@SteveV  I installed by extracting the dload file to USB root directory from the link firmware a few posts back, then put *#*#2846579#*#*  Into the dialler select software update, the phone will reboot and install.

It does wipe the data so I did app & data backup first.

@tuloks  I just did the usb sideload from .122 but I backed up app data for the apps I wanted not to have to put everything in again. After the wipe and install I manually added everything back rather than a Google restore.

Nice to finally see the Note 8 update. I still have a few questions:

  • Is this place simply somewhere for customers to get crowd sourced help with no input from Optus? I believe that it would be of more use to customers if Optus maintained a regular presence here.
  • Is it just me or are the Samsung update servers very slow? I've tried downloading the Pie update from home (41Mb NBN connection) and work (100MB uncontended connection) but am still getting exceptionally slow speeds. The current estimate is just under 3 hours to download the update (1400MB).

Trusted Contributor

@DM72 my download of 1.4gb took around half hour, id say servers being hammered with this rrlease and updates going out to the new s10s.

This is Yes Crowd - crowd sourced support, generally faster support via facebook/twitter

For those who did an update using USB method, do you need to get an OTG cable and where do you get them from?

Once you flash the firmware, do you automatically get new updates from Huawei instead of from Optus or is it a manual update everytime?

I upgraded myself to .210 yesterday following Xalies method above.. Worked a treat! So glad there are alternatives to waiting around for something that will never happen. @Dazkatmaka11 , thanks for bringing the fight. It's a shame you had to.

Regular Contributor
Regular Contributor

@KennyJ  It definitely is a shame, as I told Optus I was having software issues causing call dropouts, yet they still refuse to do anything maybe they didn't believe that it was happening, by simply updating to .198 I no longer have this issue, plus messages, Google maps are better now along with all the extras.

I guess with the Gpay roulette, I don't want to try a later rom and find Pay not working.

But I'm still going to take the firmware update issue with Optus, there's a lot more people out there stuck on a crappy outdated firmware that need someone to voice for them. Optus just cannot get away with leaving customers with software issues. At the end of the day, these issues are impacinim on network service reliability.

Hopefully Tio can light a fire under their backsides for further updates.

What's the story with the Mate 10 Pro? No updates are being pushed since December 2018!

I checked Firware Finder and there are literally more than 20 updates that Optus has not pushed through, how lazy can you guys be! If you don't want to do the work, don't put your software on the phone as this is ruining the experience for a lot us and let us get updates directly from Huawei.

Does any Optus Rep care to comment?

Does anybody know if we will be able to get the update if we have flash to 198 with the USB method?

Regular Contributor
Regular Contributor

@escaflo  that's a good question, I'm assuming that the 212 is later than 198, but with Huawei and it's stupid system because of the region difference I'm not sure what goes on.

If you connect charger, switch off phone, power and vol up, release posep but keep vol up pressed you will access recovery with the option to download the latest Optus firmware, currently 122. I assume that it then wipes and flashes that version.

Even if this software update is released on the 20th it's not going to be available straight away because husweH progressively roll it out over 2 week or so?

Or have Optus and huawHu come to agreement to push it on the 21st in one big batch?

Some clarification would be nice, but never going to happen.

I caved and ended up doing the HiSuite patched method. Having not heard from my @Optus complaints rep in over 2 weeks and seeing the success of others on here in seemed like the only solution bar rooting the damn phone and ruining my warranty in the process.

Can't say it was an easy process, lots of fiddly things needed doing and redoing to get it to work but I'm now on Build .210 and everything is working just fine. Incredible that a flagship phone on one of Australia's main networks is still without an update through normal means 5 months after launch. The security gaps left open by Optus' refusal to update, in a phone used for consumer and business purposes is beyond my comprehension.

The TIO gave Optus 10 days to respond to my final resolution demand tomorrow however suprisingly is their last day to respond and why do I feel that they won't....shows just how arrogant they really are when they don't even respond to the TIO request. Friday we will see what kind of Final decision the TIO will demand and what will happen if the Optus 🀑 don't respond again.

Regular Contributor

Email sent back to the Optus representative.......

I don't think that there will be any release of firmware version update tomorrow

Here's the email

I have a final resolution demand from the TIO , however tomorrow (Thursday 21st) is the last day for Optus to respond to me within the 10 days allowed.

Why has nobody from Optus contacted me? Are Optus really this arrogant in general that they think they are GOD.

I doubt that tomorrow there will be any release of firmware as you will see by the screenshot we was told on the 30th January that version 9.0.0.146 was completed, then a few weeks later that it was incompatible with the Optus network.....come on who's lying to who here.
