I have an iphone X and use my optusnet email on the phone, I can receive emails, but cannot send out.
I have deleted the account on numerous times and added again following the prompts, but still cannot send emails out. I assume I am using correct out going server 'mail.optusnet.com.au' and "port 25"
Have struggled since Feb on this subject to no avail.

You are connected to Optus not WiFi or something like that when trying to send? Have you tried authentication with and without on the outgoing server?
I have tried connected to optus wifi and optus 4G, trying most recent to optus 4G.
With authentication with and without on the outgoing server, not sure, so just tried and still get the same message "cannot send mail, the connection to the server "mail.optusnet.com.au" failed"
To be perfectly honest I have always had issues with iPhone's and POP mail. IMAP normally works first time but POP is always a pain. The thing that irks me the most is the settings you have tried a million times all of a sudden start working for no apparent reason. Authentication means you are using your Optus username (your email address) and your Optus password when you are sending mail. Its not normally required if you are actually connected to Optus but it was worth a shot.
What mail program are you using as in the default one that came with the phone? Did you try IMAP as a matter of interest?
samczy1 I just dragged out my old iPhone and went through the setup. Just to make an ass out of me it worked first time. Connected to Optus. Hit new mail account, selected other, put in name, email and password (pic 1) selected POP in (pic2) Typed in outgoing mail server in (pic3) and hit save. Verifying took a good 2 minutes then I sent a test message that was received.

Wow, I'll try again, but not confident as done many times already!
Might have to wait till this covid situation is over and head into an optus store.
Thanks so far. Appreciated..
