On 11th September 2013 Optus auto-unlocked all iPhones previously sold by them (including the iPhone 5). That means that by performing an update or restoring your phone via iTunes after this date, your iPhone will be unlocked. However, if your Optus iPhone is not unlocked, just follow the instructions below.
Before you start the process, please remember that Optus can only remove a network lock from iPhones sold by them directly that are locked to the Optus network. If your phone is locked to another network, you’ll need to ask them to unlock it for you.
If you still want to unlock your iPhone, here’s how:
iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 5C, 6, 6S, 6S Plus, SE, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X, XS, XS Max
If you’re already running on IOS7 or higher, then your iPhone is already unlocked from the Optus network. If you’re not running IOS7 yet, just update your device to unlock your phone.
iPhone 3, 3GS or if you haven’t updated to IOS7 yet (and don’t want to)
Perform a back up and then restore your iPhone with iTunes. This will send the unlocking setting to your phone which will allow it to work with another provider’s SIM card.
