sim cards

I have bought a new samsung unlocked mobile and my old sim card does not fit. Do I have to go into an Optus shop to get a new one and for them to activate it personally

Re: sim cards

SIM cards have been multi size for years, maybe you can use an old SIM as an adaptor.

Re: sim cards

I have no idea what that means the adaptor part but please be aware I am a novice with new technology being an older generation. So I own samsung 5 now and have bought a samsung A20 where the sim goes into a slideout on the side of the phone

Re: sim cards

For many years, a SIM card has been broken into 4 sizes, Standard, Mini, Micro and Nano as you can see here.  The SIM card you currently have is most likely going to be a Micro or a Nano.

If its a Micro and you need to go to Nano, you simply pop out the Nano portion of the SIM and use it.

If its a Nano and you need to go to Micro, then you need the Micro portion of the SIM and you can usually get that from an old sim that is not being used. You just pop out the old SIMs nano portion and replace it with your current Nano sim. So your old unused SIM card acts like an adaptor,

Re: sim cards

I just checked and the Samsung Galaxy S5 uses a Micro SIM and Galaxy S20 uses a Nano SIM.

Re: sim cards

Hi @Bear67,

Just to clarify, are you looking to activate your prepaid or postpaid SIM?

You can check out our Support page for more details on how to activate a new or replacement SIM card.
