First timer here.
Just got the Note 9 as part of the pre-order offer. Was delivered last Monday. A day later I realised the system files were taking up 46.1 gigs of space. Thought I shoud reset and try again. No luck...still the same. Yesterday I did a hard reset with the buttons...still the same issue. 46.1 gigs is definitely bigger than a full desktop OS.
A mate got the Note 9 128 gig version (also from optus), his phone shows 16 (approx) gigs of system files.
Its got me a bit worried. Is this a software or a potential hardware problem?
Can someone who has the same capacity phone check their storage settings and shed some light. I'm attaching a screen shot of my storage breakdown.
Yeah, that is a bit weird.
I have heard google is playing with reserving onboard space for future firmware updates. i.e. the update downloads completely into the reserved space and then when you say tiy want it its an immeadiate and foolproof switch to the new partition.
But hear I think something is possibly going on with a bad memory chip maybe stuffing the availability count.
I would be taking it back to the store and asking for a look at their base momory usage. If its under 10Gb (as I'd expect) then request the phone be swapped over.
Well you've answered your own question
I tried finding something similar but mosts posts just lead to how the note has 1Tb of storage.
Sounds like you are good to go.
